Abstract

This dataset originates from the 2nd Round of the Regional External Quality Assessment Scheme (REQAS) conducted by the Tigray Health Research Institute in 2018. It contains onsite evaluation data related to malaria microscopy, with a focus on the performance of health facilities (HFs) in preparing and interpreting blood films (BFs) for malaria diagnosis. The evaluation included all participating health facilities across the region and assessed the proficiency of laboratory personnel in slide preparation, staining, parasite detection, species identification, and overall diagnostic accuracy. The dataset serves as a tool to monitor and improve diagnostic quality and reliability in malaria testing, supporting laboratory quality assurance efforts and capacity building. The data can be used to identify performance gaps, guide targeted training, and support national malaria control strategies through evidence-based improvements in diagnostic services.
