Maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response in Ethiopia: Achievements, challenges and prospects

Abstract

This dataset stems from a community-based cross-sectional study conducted between July 2016 and June 2017 across selected districts in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. The study assessed the implementation of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) systems, focusing on achievements, challenges, and future prospects. Data were collected from 75 health posts and 66 health facilities using an adapted tool and analyzed with SPSS. The study found that early identification and timely notification of maternal and perinatal deaths were inadequately practiced at the health post level. Both rural and urban areas were included, and the sampling used simple random sampling (SRS). The research was funded by UNFPA in collaboration with the Tigray Regional Health Bureau and was published in PLOS ONE on October 11, 2019.
